Richmond Hill, Ontario – The Hyundai Elantra and Ford F-Series topped the Canadian sales charts in August, according to industry analyst Dennis DesRosiers.

“The Civic is still the best-selling passenger car year-to-date, by 110 units, but Elantra is fast closing in on the top spot,” DesRosiers said. “Year-to-date, the Elantra is up 37.9 per cent while the Honda Civic is down by 10.3 per cent. Civic has been the best-selling passenger car for more than a decade and symbolically, it is a very significant development to lose this mantle to another brand.”

The top ten best-selling cars in August, in order, were the Hyundai Elantra, Mazda3, Chevrolet Cruze, Ford Focus, Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, Volkswagen Jetta, Hyundai Accent, Chevrolet Malibu and Chevrolet Impala.

Year-to-date to the end of August, the top ten, in order, are the Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra, Mazda3, Chevrolet Cruze, Toyota Corolla, Ford Focus, Volkswagen Jetta, Hyundai Accent, Ford Fusion and Hyundai Sonata.

The top ten best-selling light trucks in August, in order, were the Ford F-Series, Dodge Caravan, Dodge Ram, GMC Sierra, Ford Escape, Chevrolet Silverado, Hyundai Santa Fe, Honda CR-V, Chevrolet Equinox and Nissan Rogue.
