Anderson, Indiana – Military vehicle assembler AM General has been contracted by U.S. electric vehicle company Bright to build the Idea, an all-new plug-in hybrid work truck.
The Idea platform is a “clean-sheet” design that addresses key economic and functional challenges facing commercial fleet operates, offering high fuel economy and efficiency, maximum utility and low-cost operation.
Current manufacturing plans call for the Idea to be available for sale as early as 2014 to government and commercial fleets. Production of the vehicle is contingent on the completion of Bright Automotive’s funding, a blend of private equity commitments and a loan through the U.S. Department of Energy’s Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing Loan Program.
AM General will build the Idea at its commercial assembly plant in Mishawake, Indiana under a contract agreement.
