Honda to triple supply of Civic Hybrids to U.K.
London, England – Honda will triple the supply of its Civic Hybrid in the U.K. to 3,000 vehicles during 2007, according to a report by the Green Car Congress. The increase is to meet projected demand resulting from the expansion of London’s congestion charge zone. From 2005 to 2006, the percentage of hybrid cars in London rose from 1.03 per cent to 2 per cent, an addition of more than 1,100 cars.
Forecasters now predict that there will be more than 6,500 additional hybrid cars in London by 2008; the vehicles are eligible for a 100 per cent discount from the congestion charge. Last year, the Metropolitan Police ordered 117 Civic Hybrids, the largest hybrid fleet deal to date.
The report also says that Toyota has reported sales of the Prius in London jumping 135 per cent in January 2007 from the same period in 2006.
