Guangzhou, China – Honda has begin demonstration testing of its electric Fit in China in conjunction with the government of the city of Guangzhou.

The electric vehicles (EVs) will be driven in a real-world transportation environment in the city to verify the practical convenience of EVs and identify technological issues that need to be addressed to achieve the widespread use of the vehicles in future. Proposals regarding charging infrastructure will be made based on the results of the EV range verification and other relevant information.

Guangqi Honda Automobile Company intends to begin local production of EVs before the end of 2012.

The demonstration Fit EV uses a lithium-ion battery that recharges in less than six hours with a 220-volt power supply. Its range is more than 150 km.
