Honda opens new Advanced Design Studio in California
Pasadena, California – Honda R&D Americas, Inc. (HRA) opened its new Advanced Design Studio yesterday in Pasadena, California. It is the company’s third design centre in that state. The new studio will focus on advanced design concepts and the creation of concept vehicles for future Honda and Acura products.
In March 2006, HRA broke ground on its second major California design centre, the Acura Design Center in Torrance, located adjacent to the company’s U.S. sales headquarters. The new Acura centre, opening next summer, will focus exclusively on market research and styling design activities for the Acura brand, while the existing Los Angeles Center will be responsible for market research, concept development and styling design for the Honda brand.
“We will now have one centre focused on Honda products, another centre focused on Acura products, and this new advanced studio that takes a longer view focused on advanced design concepts that will guide the future of both of these brands,” says Hirohide Ikeno, president of Honda R&D Americas.
HRA’s new Advanced Design Studio will work closely with other Honda Advance Design studios around the world, specifically in Germany, Italy and Japan. In addition, the new studio will undertake special projects such as concept cars for American auto shows, and school projects with the Art Center College of Design.
