Honda Fit and CR-V to be offered with hybrid powertrains

Tokyo, Japan – A hybrid version of the Honda Fit will be available in 2007, using the powertrain from the Honda Insight, according to a report released by the Green Car Congress. The new vehicle is scheduled for mid-2007 release, according to a Honda insider.

The wheel-hub to wheel-hub dimensions of the Fit and Insight are identical. The two-seater Insight is the most fuel-efficient hybrid available at 3.3 L/100 km in city driving (86 mpg Imp), but Honda currently sells fewer than 100 per month.

The source also stated that Honda will release a hybrid version of the CR-V in late 2006. Honda has not publicly commented on plans for hybrid versions of either vehicle.
