Markham, Ontario – Honda has expanded a previously-announced recall to replace the driver’s airbag inflator. The recall affects certain 2001 to 2003 vehicles, as well as 45 additional vehicles that have had service parts installed through collision repair or other vehicle service.

The affected inflators may deploy with too much pressure, which can cause the inflator casing to rupture and which could result in injury or death.

In Canada, the recall expansion includes certain 2001 to 2003 Honda Accord, Civic, Odyssey and CR-V vehicles, as well as certain 2002 to 2003 Acura 3.2 TL and 3.2 CL vehicles.

There have been no reported incidents in Canada, but the company is aware of several incidents in other markets related to the earlier recall. Owners of vehicles in the expanded group will receive notification in late December 2011 or early January 2012, and should take their vehicles to authorized dealers as soon as they receive the notification in the mail.

Owners can determine if their vehicles are affected by checking online or by phone. Honda owners can call 1-888-9HONDA9 or visit Honda. Acura owners can call 1-888-9ACURA9 or visit Acura.
