Tokyo, Japan – Honda Motor Company has announced it will delay the start of operations of a new auto plant in Japan, due to the global economic slowdown. The plant is currently under construction in Yorii, Saitama.

The plant was originally scheduled to start production for 2010, but a delay of more than one year was decided in December 2008. Honda said that because there is no sign of market recoveryon the horizon, operations will be delayed for at least one more year.

The new plant will employ various advanced technologies for high-quality and highly efficient manufacturing systems, and will be responsible for sharing such technologies with other Honda operations worldwide.
