Honda Civic and Ford F-Series retain top-ten sales positions in July

Richmond Hill, Ontario – The Honda Civic and the Ford F-Series pickup topped Canadian sales of passenger cars and light trucks in July, according to industry analyst Dennis DesRosiers. DesRosiers also noted that, for the first time, import brands have emerged in the top ten list of light trucks, with the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4 and Hyundai Tucson.

DesRosiers noted that for the month, entry-level vehicles were up 2.1 per cent “in a flat market, a continuation of the trend that developed more than a decade ago. Consumers are still moving away from the middle of the market, with midsize family vehicles down 3.7 per cent. This size of vehicle has lost almost 20 points of market share over the last decade and now accounts for only a third of the market.” The figures show that, if fleet sales are taken out of the equation, retail consumers purchased almost 60 per cent entry-level vehicles this year, with midsize family vehicles down in the 20 per cent range.

For July 2007, the top ten best-selling passenger cars, in order, were the Honda Civic, Mazda3, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Yaris, Toyota Camry, Chevrolet Cobalt, Toyota Matrix, Ford Focus, Pontiac Pursuit/G5 and Nissan Altima. Year-to-date sales to July, in order, were the Honda Civic, Mazda3, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Yaris, Chevrolet Cobalt, Toyota Camry, Pontiac Pursuit/G5, Toyota Matrix, Ford Focus and Nissan Versa.

Among light trucks, the top sellers in July, in order, were the Ford F-Series, Dodge Caravan, Dodge Ram, Ford Escape/Escape Hybrid, Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, Ford Ranger, Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, and Hyundai Tucson.
