The Accord Hybrid features Honda’s Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) hybrid system which utilizes a high-output electric motor/generator that captures electrical energy during braking or deceleration. The system can also shut off the engine during vehicle stops.
In addition, the Accord Hybrid has Honda’s Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) technology which deactivates three of the engine’s six cylinders during cruising and deceleration.
The combination of Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) and VCM cylinder deactivation allow the Accord Hybrid to achieve fuel economy numbers of 7.9 L/100 km City and 5.9 L/100 km Highway. When compared to an Accord EX-V6 sedan, the Accord Hybrid’s fuel economy is 31% better in the City and 21% better on the Highway. In addition, engine output of the Accord Hybrid is greater than the Accord EX-V6 sedan with 15 more hp and an additional 20 lb-ft. of torque. The Accord Hybrid delivers 255 hp and 232 lb-ft. of torque.
The 2005 Accord Hybrid will join the Insight and Civic Hybrid as the third Honda in Canada with hybrid technology.
