Tokyo, Japan – Honda Motor Company has held a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction of a new automobile plant in Yorii, Saitama prefecture, Japan.
The new plant is scheduled to begin production in 2010, with an annual capacity of approximately 200,000 units. It will complement a new engine plant in Ogawa, scheduled to become operational in 2009, and the existing Sayama plant. The company says the Yorii plant will be built with the concept of “a people-friendly and resource/energy-recycling Green Factory that will employ high quality and highly efficient production and logistics systems”; the technologies of the three plants will be evolved horizontally to other Honda operations worldwide.
Among the plant’s “green” facilities will include planting native species in green space, and on the roof.
