Honda awards Bridgestone/Firestone for environmental efforts and quality
Mississauga, Ontario – In a ceremony at the company’s Oklahoma City tire plant, Bridgestone/Firestone North American Tire received its first Green Partner Award for environmental excellence and a Quality Performance Award from Honda of America Manufacturing, Inc. This marks the first time that one company has received both awards in the same year, and is the first time a tire company has been named a Green Partner recipient.
“We are honoured to receive this recognition from Honda of America,”said Mark Emkes, BFNT president, CEO and chairman, who accepted the awards on behalf of the company. “These awards reaffirm our commitment to employing sound environmental practices in all of our facilities while continuing to provide quality products to a respected automotive manufacturer.
First awarded in 1999, the Green Partner Award is Honda’s way of pointing out the single most impressive environmental performance among its suppliers. The award’s primary focus includes pollution prevention, energy conservation, environmental management systems and natural resource conservation efforts. Along with the Oklahoma City tire facility, the company’s LaVergne, Tenn.; Wilson, N.C.; Des Moines, Iowa; and Joliette, Quebec, Canada plants -the five plants that supply Honda with original equipment tires – also shared the award honours. Each of these plants is certified under QS 9000 and ISO 14001, which are international standards requiring continuous improvement in quality and environmental management.
In addition to the Green Partner Award, Honda also honoured the five BFNT plants that supply Honda with the auto manufacturer’s Quality Performance Award, which recognizes outstanding performance in quality and delivery. This year, only 34 of Honda’s 461 suppliers received an honour for quality.
