Highway 7 to be widened near Ottawa
Ottawa, Ontario – The Ontario government is widening Highway 7 near Ottawa, which is expected to ease traffic congestion between Ottawa and Carleton Place. The road will be widened from Highway 417 to west of Jinkinson Road.
“This is great news for residents, commuters and businesses in the Ottawa area,” says Parliamentary Assistant Phil McNeely. “More than 16,000 drivers use this section of road every day.”
The highway is considered a key transportation corridor to Ottawa, carrying about 1,700 trucks and $34 million worth of goods each day. The project is the first in a three-phase plan to widen Highway 7 from Highway 417 to Carleton Place; it will cost $45 million and work is expected to finish by summer 208. The Ontario government is investing a total of $106 million under its ReNew Ontario plan to complete all three phases by 2010.
