Halifax, Nova Scotia – With the holiday season upon us, motorists need to lock their vehicles at all times to “Grinch-Proof” them, reminds the Insurance Brokers Association of Nova Scotia (IBANS).
The Christmas season brings a rise in car break-ins and it’s important to ensure that holiday purchases are safe from theft.
When shopping, remember to lock your car and keep shopping bags hidden from view. Even an empty shopping bag can give the appearance that there are items worth stealing within the vehicle. Remove purchases as soon as possible and keep the car locked.
When you return home, remove all valuables from your vehicle, including purses, GPS and all electronics. Keep the car free of clutter, which helps to reduce break-ins, and always keep it locked even when it’s in your driveway. Don’t leave the garage door opener inside, as thieves can use it to gain access to your home.
