Goodyear carbon fibre tire wins Popular Mechanics award
Akron, Ohio – Goodyear’s newest tire, the Eagle with ResponsEdge Technology, received the Editors Choice Award from Popular Mechanics magazine during Automotive Aftermarket Industry Week in Las Vegas. Only 17 automotive products received Editors Choice awards, and the Goodyear Eagle was the only tire selected. The award was given “in recognition of outstanding achievement in new product design and innovation,” according to the magazine.
The outboard sidewall of the tire is reinforced with a high-tech carbon fibre insert, which provides stiffness for better handling and steering. Weighing less than steel of similar strength, carbon fibre is commonly used in high-tech race-cars and jet planes. The tire also uses a sound- and shock-absorbing layer of Kevlar on top of the belt package for a quiet ride and even tread wear.
