Oshawa, Ontario – GM of Canada has confirmed that it is proceeding with a new $227 million investment in its Oshawa, Ontario truck assembly centre to prepare for the next generation of full-size Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks.

The investment, scheduled to be completed this fall, includes extensive retooling; employees will be laid off for the week of April 3 and the month of September 2006. The Oshawa investment is part of a $3 billion program announced last year, along with recently-confirmed additional capacity for the company’s St. Catharines, Ontario engine operations.
