Shanghai, China – GM’s joint venture in China has become the first vehicle manufacturer in the country to sell one million units in the domestic market this year.
SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) hit the milestone on October 14. Its sales in the first nine months of 2011 were up 6.6. per cent from the year before, taking its share of the mini-vehicle segment to 46 per cent.
On August 9, SGMW launched the 630 midsize sedan, the first product from its new Baojun brand, which is available in 120 stores across China.
SGMW was launched in 2002 and manufactures a range of Wuling mini-trucks and minivans, the Chevrolet Le Chi mini-car, and the Baojun 630 midsize sedan. The company sold 1,226,860 vehicles in China in 2010.
