GM extends Car Heaven sponsorship

Toronto, Ontario – GM Canada and the Clean Air Foundation have announced the extension of GM’s sponsorship of the Car Heaven program through 2006. The program has already led to the successful retirement of more than 13,000 vehicles, with profits going to charity.

The Car Heaven program, developed by the Clean Air Foundation, is supported by partnerships with General Motors of Canada, Imperial Oil, the Government of Canada, the Ontario Ministry of the Environment and the Ontario Automotive Recyclers Association; the focus is to get older, heavily-polluting “clunkers” off the road.

Car owners who take advantage of the program are offered tax receipts from their choice of fifteen affiliated charities, either for the $60 set value or the bid value of the vehicle, whichever is greater, and their vehicles are towed free of charge. If the vehicles are in running condition and 11 years or older, GM of Canada offers a $1,000 incentive towards the purchase or lease of any new GM vehicle in 2006.
