GM Canada’s first quarter market share up 30 per cent

Oshawa, Ontario – Increasing sales momentum across the GM product lineup propelled GM Canada’s total vehicle market share to 30 per cent for the first quarter of 2005. This year, GM Canada is introducing a total of 18 new cars and trucks.

Marc Comeau, GM of Canada’s vice-president of sales, service and marketing, reporting that, “The all-new Pontiac G6, Chevrolet Cobalt, Pontiac Pursuit and Oshawa-built Buick Allure all outsold expectations. Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx sales soared by 30 per cent compared to March 2004 and it was the best first quarter for Saturn in five years.”

General Motors of Canada dealers and retailers delivered 47,375 vehicles in March, an increase of 8.3 per cent from the same period last year. Compared to March 2004, passenger car sales for March 2005 were 22,074 units, up 5.9 per cent, while truck sales were 24,671, up 10.7 per cent.
