St. John’s, Newfoundland – Targa Newfoundland has announced that Bill Arnold of San Rafael, California, the only competitor to have won in his class in each of the four previous rally events, will be returning for the 2006 edition of the race. Arnold is also the first competitor to earn the gold Targa plate for three consecutive years of consistent finishes.

Targa Newfoundland will be held September 9 to 16, 2006, and will cover 2,100 km of the province’s roads, including 500 km of closed stages.

Arnold and his partner Tammy Hull won the Modern Division in the inaugural Targa Newfoundland in 2002, driving a BMW M Coupe, without the aid of navigation systems. In the second annual event, he built a 1972 BMW Bavaria for the Classic Division, and won in a last-day shoot-out.
