Ford Mustang rated Top Sport Coupe by Edmunds.com
Santa Monica, California – Edmunds.com announced that the 2005 Ford Mustang GT won its Sports Coupe Comparison Test.
The site’s editorial team tested the Mustang against the Mazda RX-8 and Nissan 350Z, both of which were redesigned for the 2005 model year.
“The Mustang, with its impressive value and all-out brute horsepower, delivers the daily adrenaline rush a sport coupe should,” said Road Test editor Dan Kahn. “And it does all that without making any significant sacrifices in driveability or comfort.”
The team found the new Mustang easier to drive and the quickest of the three cars tested. It was also the least expensive of the three and while fuel economy was similar for all of them, the Mustang was the only one that did not require premium fuel.
The RX-8 placed second and 350Z a close third, both well behind Mustang. The Mazda edged out the Nissan with a combination of performance, comfort and spaciousness, with easy access to its rear seat via its clamshell rear doors. The 350Z delivers serious performance, but the editors found it too hard-core for daily driving, writing, “it is fun to drive hard, but hard to drive slow.”
