Göteborg, Sweden – Volvo has announced that five of its models have been nominated for the World Green Car of the Year 2009 award, which will be announced at the New York International Auto Show in April 2009. The company has the largest number of candidates in the running.

The diesel-powered C30 1.6D DRIVe, S40 1.6D DRIVe and V50 1.6D DRIVe models, and the flexible-fuel V70 2.5FT and S80 2.5FT have been nominated.

Other candidates include models from Fiat, Mini, Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz. The five finalists will be announced in February 2009, with the final three named in March.
