Toronto, Ontario – Seven new service centres have opened along Ontario’s Highway 401, part of the province’s redevelopment program of 23 centres along Highways 401 and 400.
The provincial government had come under criticism when leases on several of the old centres expired around the same time, leaving motorists with few places to stop for fuel, food or washroom facilities directly on the highway.
Restaurants at the new centres include Tim Hortons, A&W, Coldstone Creamery, KFC, Burger King and Taco Bell, alongside Canadian Tire gas stations and convenience stores.
The centres are located at Bainsville, Morrisburg, Trenton North, Tilbury North, Tilbury South, Dutton and West Lorne. The Tilbury South and Bainsville locations also include staffed tourist information centres.
Construction on the three subsequent phases will continue through to 2012, with openings following in 2011 through 2013.
