First 2007 Ford Shelby GT to be auctioned at Barrett-Jackson
Las Vegas, Nevada – The first Ford Shelby GT will be built at Shelby Automobiles in Las Vegas, the third modern Shelby Mustang produced through a collaboration of Ford and Carroll Shelby. The companies also produce the 2007 Shelby GT500, as well as 500 copies of the Shelby GT-H, available for rental through select Hertz dealers.
The first production Shelby GT will be auctioned in January 2007 at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Collector Car Event in Arizona, to support the Carroll Shelby Children’s Foundation charity. In January 2006, an early-production Shelby GT500 sold at the auction for US$600,000 to benefit the charity.
The new Shelby GT features a 4.6-litre V8 with Shelby design cues and performance modifications; it will be priced at US$36,970, including taxes and delivery. The vehicles start as stock Mustang GT models assembled in Flat Rock, Michigan; they are shipped to Shelby’s facility in Las Vegas for modification before delivery to Ford dealerships.
