Arlington, Virginia – The 2012 Fiat 500 has been named a “Top Safety Pick” by the U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

To be named, a vehicle must earn the top “good” ratings in front, side, rollover and rear impact evaluations, and have standard electronic stability control.

The designation applies to Fiat 500 models built after July 2011, when the driver’s seat structure was modified to improve occupant protection in frontal and rear-end crashes.

The IIHS said that the 500 and the Ford Fiesta are the only minicars to earn the Top Safety Pick designation.
