European Union works with NHTSA to promote mandatory electronic stability control

Brussels, Belgium – The European Union (EU) has announced a Europe-wide “Choose ESC!” campaign that it will launch at the Bridgestone European Testing Ground near Rome today. The EU says that more than 40,000 people die and over one million are injured in road crashes in European Union countries each year, and that electronic stability control will help Europe meet its goal of cutting road fatalities in half by 2010.

The introduction of ESC is part of the package of measures proposed by the EU Commission on the CARS 21 (Competitive Automotive Regulatory System for the 21st Century) Communication, which will improve safety on European roads through an integrated approach involving all stakeholders.
