CEO: Pickup “might” be produced in five years
On the cusp of Model X deliveries at the end of next year, eccentric CEO Elon Musk wants to build an all-electric pickup truck to take on the industry powerhouse F-150.
During Business Insider’s IGNITION event in New York, conference attendees were allowed to ask the Tesla CEO questions during a post-interview Q&A session. When asked if Tesla would ever build a fleet truck – much like the ones used by delivery company FedEx as highlighted in Return of the Electric Car – Musk admitted Tesla was in fact planning to build a truck, but not a commercial one.
Musk later admitted the electric pickup would use the F-series as a benchmark due to the Ford truck’s “remarkable popularity”, says the report from Business Insider.
