Edmunds.com unveils car safety guide

Santa Monica, California – On-line automotive site Edmunds.com has launched a Car Safety Guide, featuring safety feature articles, NHTSA and IIHS ratings, safety technology updates, driving tips, safety for children, teenagers and seniors, and special needs mobility coverage. The guide is available at www.edmunds.com/safety.

Edmunds.com says that motor vehicle crashes were the leading cause of death for people between the ages of four and 34 in the U.S., with more than 43,000 deaths on American roadways in 2005.

“Safety has become one of the primary considerations for new car buyers, and we are committed to providing our visitors a range of practical information they can use to make well-informed decisions,” says Joanne Helperin, Senior Features Editor of the guide. “Our Car Safety Guide may even help save lives and reduce injuries.

“New safety technology is always being introduced and car shoppers who haven’t been in the market for a while may not know what is available. For example, 35 per cent of 2006 model year vehicles have standard or optional parking sensors, and 10 per cent have standard or optional rear-view cameras; this relatively new technology is very effective in helping to prevent potentially fatal back-over accidents.”
