Dodge Caravan, Mazda3 top June sales

Toronto, Ontario – Mazda and Dodge held the top spots in Canadian passenger car and truck light vehicles sales, reports industry analyst Dennis DesRosiers.

Mazda sold 6,644 Mazda3s in June 2005, up 53.6 per cent from its sales in June 2004. Second place was held by the Honda Civic sedan and coupe at 5,573 (down 0.1 per cent from 2004) and third went to the Toyota Corolla, at 4,368 (down 11.0 per cent). The remainder of the top ten spots went to the Ford Focus (3,479), Toyota Echo (3,172), Pontiac Sunfire (2,772), Dodge SX 2.0 (2,734), Chevrolet Cobalt (2,616), Toyota Matrix (2,433) and Chrysler Sebring sedan (2,347).

In light trucks, Dodge sold 7,800 Caravans/Grand Caravans (down 11.8 per cent from June 2004), followed by the Ford F-Series (7,470), Dodge Ram pickup (3,940), GMC Sierra (3,795), Chevrolet Silverado (3,531), Ford Escape/Escape Hybrid (2,476), Chevrolet Uplander (2,205), Jeep Liberty (2,103), Pontiac Montana SV6 (2,079) and Ford Freestar (1,736).

Honda still leads year-to-date light passenger car sales, with 29,367 Civic sedan and coupes sold; it’s followed by the Mazda3, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Echo, Pontiac Sunfire, Ford Focus, Honda Accord, Toyota Matrix, Toyota Camry, and Chrysler Sebring sedan.

The same switch happens in year-to-date light truck sales, with Ford’s F-Series leading at 36,687, followed by the Dodge Caravan, GMC Sierra, Chevrolet Silverado, Dodge Ram pickup, Ford Escape/Escape Hybrid, Chevrolet Uplander, Pontiac Montana SV6, Ford Freestar and Honda CR-V.
