Diesel Mini to be offered in Europe

Geneva, Switzerland – In a speech to the media at the Geneva Motor Show, Dr Michael
Ganal, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, announced that the company would
soon offer a diesel-engined Mini in Europe. The Mini One D will start at 16,000
Euro, and offer average fuel consumption of just 4.8 litres/100 km or 59.5 mpg.

“It goes without saying, Ladies and Gentlemen, that the MINI One D is aimed at
European markets with a clear affinity for the diesel. Indeed, diesel cars have seen
an unprecedented boom here in recent years, as some figures confirm most
impressively: The diesel mix share in Austria is 69.6 per cent, in France it is 63.2
per cent, and in Spain 58.5 per cent. And “classic” non-diesel countries such as
Switzerland are now also becoming more significant, with a diesel share in the Swiss
market now amounting to 18 per cent. Yet another example is Great Britain, where in
the last four years the share of diesel models has increased from 15.3 to 23.3 per
cent.”

The Mini One D is the first Mini with a diesel engine.
