DaimlerChrysler to partner with NextEnergy on biodiesel research

Detroit, Michigan – DaimlerChrysler will collaborate with Detroit-based NextEnergy and Biodiesel Industries on development and technical innovation, as well as development and refinement of industry standards for the biodiesel industry.

Currently, every Jeep Liberty CRD leaves its Toledo, Ohio factory with B5 fuel, which contains five per cent biodiesel. In September, 1,200 units were sold in the U.S.

The Green Car Congress reports that as part of its work with NextEnergy, DaimlerChrysler will commit some of its currently unused land for use in producing soybeans for research programs. NextEnergy is a non-profit organization created by the state of Michigan to advance alternative energy technology within the state.
