DaimlerChrysler to be renamed Daimler AG

Berlin, Germany – More than 5,000 shareholders at a special meeting in Berlin yesterday voted overwhelmingly to approve the renaming of DaimlerChrysler AG to Daimler AG. A majority of 98.76 per cent carried the vote.

Those attending the meeting amounted to 51.6 per cent of the total number of DaimlerChrysler shareholders.

As part of the renaming, the company’s production plants and sales organizations in Germany and abroad will also be renamed, but product brands will remain unchanged, including Mercedes-Benz, Maybach, Smart, Freightliner, Sterling, Western Star, Setra, Thomas Built Buses, Orion and Mitsubishi Fuso.

The company will be called Daimler wherever several product brands are produced or sold, or where the focus is on the group as a whole; plants and sales organizations that primarily or exclusively produce or sell a single product brand will be named after that brand. In Canada, the sales organization will be renamed Mercedes-Benz.

With minor exceptions, all of the company’s research centres will be named Daimler, while development centres will be named after the respective product brand. The company’s financial services division will be named Daimler Financial Services.
