Stuttgart, Germany – Daimler has signed an agreement to supply Mercedes-Benz trucks and assembly kits to Iraq. The company plans to partner with the State Company for Automotive Industry in regards to a memorandum it signed with the Iraqi government in July 2008.
In the partnership, Daimler will supply tools and equipment for truck assembly and provide technical support on site. In February 2009, Daimler opened a representative office in Baghdad to determine market opportunities for trucks and buses in Iraq, and to coordinate the negotiations for a partnership agreement.
In February 2008, Daimler inaugurated its European Technical Training Center in Erbil in Northern Iraq, providing training for skilled workers from the local area with qualifications needed for the country’s growing labour market.
