Cologne, Germany – Ford of Europe’s plant in Cologne, Germany has built 100 Fiesta hatchbacks for a special “pre-launch” program in the U.S., prior to the vehicle’s official North American launch in 2010.

The cars will go to a specially-selected group of consumers who will drive the cars and relate their experiences through social networking sites such as Facebook, FlickR and YouTube. The 100 consumers will be selected through the “Fiesta Movement” program.

The Fiesta has been in production in Cologne since August 2008; cars for North America will be built at the company’s Cuautitlán plant in Mexico. The vehicles for the North American program will feature a 1.6-litre gasoline engine.

“It’s one thing to talk about the vehicle, but it’s another to put people into it and let them experience it,” said Connie Fontaine, brand content and alliances manager. “This is a way to give people an early hands-on opportunity to get excited about the Fiesta while providing valuable feedback to our engineering team.”

By 2010, the global Fiesta will be produced in plants in Germany, Spain, Mexico, Thailand and China for worldwide sales.
