Construction begins on Quebec’s Highway 5 extension
Chelsea, Quebec – Representatives of the federal and provincial governments broke ground on Friday to announce the beginning of construction of the Highway 5 extension in the Outaouais Region of Quebec.
The project consists of a 2.5-km segment in the municipality of Chelsea, from Tulip Valley extending northward. Work includes building an interchange, including two overpasses at the end of Highway 5 in Chelsea, and a four-lane divided extension of Highway 5 in a rural area. The work will have no effect on the Gatineau Park area.
The cost of the project is estimated at $27 million; eligible costs will be funded equally by the two levels of government. The segment is expected to be completed in the fall of 2009.
