Toronto, Ontario – Mercedes-Benz has announced the world debut of the new GLK-Class sport utility vehicle at Auto China in Beijing. The new model will appear in North American showrooms in January 2009 as a 2010 model.
The 2010 GLK350 4Matic will form the basis of the Canadian line-up, with a 268-horsepower, 3.5-litre V6 engine and standard 19-inch wheels. The GLK-Class’ 2,756 mm wheelbase and unique design language sets it apart from other Mercedes SUVs, including the M-Class, the larger GL-Class, the R-Class and G-Class. The GLK-Class will be produced exclusively at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Bremen, Germany.
“With the G-Class we created a style icon that has been a benchmark in SUV design for the past thirty years,” said Peter Pfeiffer, Mercedes-Benz Design Chief. “Combining this bold concept with the latest Mercedes-Benz design idiom makes the GLK a vehicle of genuine character.”
Standard features will include dual-zone automatic climate control, electric seats, Bluetooth interface, central colour display and side and window airbags; available options will include a rear-seat entertainment system with dual screens, wireless headphones and integrated dual-source DVD player.
