Windsor, Ontario – Chrysler Canada’s “Share Drive,” an employee-led fundraising effort, assisted approximately 24,000 people in the Windsor, Ontario area in 2009, the company said.

The unique-to-Chrysler fundraising initiative was established in 1987, and is completely organized and run by employee volunteers at the company’s Windsor headquarters building, the Automotive Research & Development Centre, and the Temple Drive office building.

The Share Drive supports three local charities: the Downtown Mission, Salvation Army and Society of Saint Vincent de Paul. It focuses primarily on providing food to those in need through delivery of truckloads of food donations to the charities at various times throughout the year.

“It has been a very difficult year here in Windsor,” said Kaye Punter, of the Downtown Mission. “In some instances, people who used to support the mission are now coming in themselves looking for help. Chrysler Canada’s Share Drive has supported us for a long time, and this year, when we needed them more than ever, they came through once again.”

Due to the rising need for assistance in the community, the Share Drive added a sleeping bag drive last January, and a “Stuff the Truck” event where employees brought in food items to fill a Ram pickup truck.
