Auburn Hills, Michigan – Chrysler Group LLC is returning a second shift of production to its assembly plant in Belvidere, Illinois, in anticipation of customer demand for the Dodge Caliber.

The second shift will begin on October 5, 2009, and will increase Caliber production by 10,000 units for North American and international markets through the end of the year. Production of the Jeep Compass and Patriot, also produced at the plant, will remain at planned production levels.

“We are taking this action in response to increasing demand for our most fuel-efficient products,” said Michael Accavitti, president and CEO of the Dodge Brand. “However, we are cautious about the continued volatility in the industry and will monitor demand in order to respond to market conditions.”

The increased shift will add approximately 850 employees to the Belvidere facility.
