Chrysler Group announces new joint-venture transmission plant

Tipton County, Indiana – The Chrysler Group has announced that it will build a new dual-clutch transmission manufacturing plant in Tipton County, Indiana, in partnership with German transmission company GETRAG. The plant represents a US$530 million investment.

GETRAG will have operational leadership of the plant, which will employ approximately 1,050 full-time Chrysler Group workers, represented by the UAW, and 120 management employees from both companies.

The plant will produce 700,000 dual-clutch transmissions annually; it will also have a direct effect on nearby plants in Kokomo, which will be dedicated to producing parts for the plant. Construction is scheduled to begin later this month, with production beginning in 2009.
