Windsor, Ontario – Lori Shalhoub of Chrysler Canada has been named the Canadian General Counsel of the Year Award (CGCA), presented by the National Post and ZSA Legal Recruitment to recognize excellence in the field of general counsel.
Shalhoub is vice-president of General Counsel & Secretary/External Affairs & Public Policy for Chrysler Canada. She has been with the company since 1997 and is responsible for providing legal and government affairs advice to the senior management team in Canada.
The CGCA Advisory Board evaluates candidates on the basis of excellence, the ability to deal with complexity across issues and jurisdictions, and sure-handedness in dealing with challenges. The board said it “looks most carefully at the role each candidate played in their company’s overall health and well-being.” Shalhoub was the only award recipient representing an automaker.
“Chrysler Canada experienced a transformational restructuring of the company in 2009,” said Reid Bigland, president and CEO. “It simply would not have been possible without the efforts of Lori Shalhoub who quarterbacked a myriad of tax, pension, government, union, supplier and regulatory issues to make it happen. We are proud of her, and this recognition is well deserved.”
A scholarship will be established in Shalhoub’s name at a Canadian law school of her choice.
