Chrysler Canada employees raise funds and donations for local charities
Windsor, Ontario – Employees of Chrysler Canada and Chrysler Financial have announced that their employee-led initiatives to raise money and other donations provided for an estimated 28,750 people in the Windsor-Essex area of Ontario. Among the charities benefitting are the Downtown Mission, Salvation Army, and St. Vincent de Paul of Windsor and Essex County.
The employee donations are used to purchase food and other necessities for the three charities. The Share Drive has been managed by Chrysler Canada employees since 1987. Fundraising activities throughout the year include “jeans days” casual clothing days, poinsettias sales, food drives and participation in the annual Polar Bear Dip.
Share Drive volunteers delivered transport truckloads of food donations to the charities at various times during the year. According to the charities’ estimates, the donations helped 4,500 more people in 2007 than in 2006.
“We really appreciate the community-mindedness of the Share Drive,” said Linda Wilson of the Salvation Army. “We had a 40 per cent increase in the number of individuals our Christmas Program served this year. Of the 5,500 applicants, 3,200 were children.”
