Chrysler builds one millionth PT Cruiser and announces US$1 billion investment

Toluca, Mexico – The Chrysler Group has announced that the one millionth Chrysler PT Cruiser was built yesterday at its Toluca, Mexico facility, the only plant producing the sedan and convertible models. Production first began in March 2000; yesterday’s ceremony included Mexico president Vicente Fox.

Over its lifetime, the PT Cruiser has received more than 30 international awards, including 2001 North American Car of the Year. It is sold in 60 countries worldwide.

The milestone came after the announcement of a US$1 billion joint investment between DaimlerChrysler and its suppliers to modernize and retool its Mexican Manufacturing Operations, and to create two industrial parks for suppliers.
