Chevrolet to build Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet Silverado SS
Mooresville, N.C. – Chevrolet and Dale Earnhardt Incorporated have unveiled the new 2006 Chevrolet Silverado Intimidator SS, honouring the late Dale Earnhardt, during a special celebration for the seven-time NASCAR Winston Cup champion and team owner.
Chevrolet plans a limited production run of 1,333 trucks. The debut was witnessed by thousands of Earnhardt fans, who make the visit to the race shop each year for “Dale Earnhardt Day” to commemorate his birthday.
The Intimidator SS is a well-equipped 2006 Silverado SS featuring a 345 hp Vortec 6000 V8, along with a performance-tuned suspension, two-stage multi-leaf springs, and Tenneco shock absorbers, with lowered ride height. It features a black monochromatic colour scheme highlighted with “Intimidator”, Earnhardt’s nickname, on the tailgate and doors, a unique race-inspired tailgate spoiler, a silver front grille insert and 20-inch chrome wheels.
Inside, the black leather seats are adorned with the Dale Earnhardt Legacy logo, an “Intimidator” badge on the instrument panel and floor mats, and Earnhardt’s signature on the gauge cluster.
The Intimidator SS is the sixth signature-edition vehicle offered by Chevrolet, joining the 2002 Dale Earnhardt Signature Edition Monte Carlo; 2003 Jeff Gordon Signature Edition Monte Carlo; 2004 Monte Carlo Intimidator SS; 2004 Dale Earnhardt Jr. Signature Series Supercharged SS Monte Carlo; and 2005 Tony Stewart Signature Series Supercharged SS. Chevrolet will make a donation from the sale of the Silverado Intimidator SS to the Dale Earnhardt Foundation, which contributes to charities Earnhardt supported during his lifetime. Chevrolet has already donated more than US$1 million from the previous models.
