Detroit, Michigan – General Motors has announced the world premiere of the Chevrolet Spark at the Geneva Auto Show in March. The new subcompact model will be sold globally, including North America.
The Spark was inspired by the Chevrolet Beat concept, one of a trio of mini-car concepts that toured international shows beginning in 2007. A majority of 1.9 million Internet voters chose it as the car they wanted produced.
Sales will begin in Europe, featuring 1.0- and 1.2-litre four-cylinder gasoline engines, delivering high fuel efficiency and low emissions. Depending on global markets, safety equipment will include side and curtain airbags, anti-lock brakes, electronic stability controller, and pretensioners for the front seat belts.
The Spark will be available in European dealerships early in 2010, followed by other global regions.
