Chery shows hybrid at Auto China 2006
Beijing, China – Chinese automaker Chery Automobile has shown a production-ready hybrid version of its A5 sedan at the Beijing International Auto Exhibition, according to the Green Car Congress. The A5 ISG parallel hybrid can run fully electric at start-up or at speeds below 40 km/h, and uses a 1.3-litre engine with permanent magnet synchronous motor and five-speed automatic transmission.
In a press release, Chery noted that hybrids are very suitable for the Chinese market, although a report by the Detroit News says that sales of the Toyota Prius, which has been assembled in China for that market since December 2005, are running at less than half of the original target.
A number of Chinese automakers are planning to release hybrid models in China, including Dongfeng, Chang’an, the China FAW Group and Geely.
