CAW union reaches contract agreement with Ford
Toronto, Ontario – The Canadian Auto Workers union announced on Monday that it had reached a tentative three-year contract agreement with Ford of Canada. Details were not immediately available but the CAW said ratification voting would take place October 5th and 6th.
The agreement avoids what could have been an expensive work stoppage. Canadian Ford plants produced parts used in U.S. auto plants, and a strike could have shut down many U.S. auto plants as well.
The CAW has now reached agreements with GM of Canada and Ford of Canada, leaving DaimlerChrysler Canada as the final target for negotiations with ‘the Big 3’.
