CAW negotiating with General Motors

Toronto, Ontario – The Canadian Auto Workers union (CAW) and General Motors are in negotiations as contract talks move closer to the deadline of 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, September 27th.

The CAW has already ratified an agreement with Ford, and has reached a tentative agreement with DaimlerChrysler, with ratification meetings for DaimlerChrysler workers to be held this coming weekend.

CAW president Buzz Hargrove said GM is the most profitable of the Big Three in Canada, earning $500 million in 2004. He believes there is no reason for a dispute at GM, where CAW members have earned awards for highest quality.
