CAW honours Katrina relief volunteers
Toronto, Ontario – Skilled trades members of the Canadian Auto Workers Union (CAW) who volunteered to help rebuild hurricane-ravaged homes in New Orleans were honoured yesterday at CAW Council. The 31 volunteers, from various CAW locals, took turns this summer over a seven-week period, rebuilding two homes in the Ninth Ward, the city’s poorest district.
An additional 37 volunteers are set to start a six-week period in January that will continue the CAW’s skilled trades relief work in New Orleans, including eight from sectors other than automotive.
