CAW donates to 44 food banks across Canada
Toronto, Ontario – The Canadian Auto Workers Union (CAW) is contributing $135,000 to food banks from Newfoundland to British Columbia as part of an annual holiday donation.
CAW president Buzz Hargrove said the union provides the support as part of its ongoing commitment to the concept of social unionism. “In a country where so much wealth is being created each day, we must remember that many people and many families are not sharing in that prosperity,” Hargrove said. “It’s not acceptable that some are being left behind. No one should go hungry in this country during the holiday season or at any other time.”
In addition to the $135,000 donation, which comes from the CAW Social Justice Fund and CAW Council, many CAW local unions also do community work and provide additional financial assistance to local food banks, the union said.
