CAW donates $25,000 to GuluWalk Ugandan charity

Toronto, Ontario – The Canadian Auto Workers Union (CAW), through its Social Justice Fund, has made a $25,000 contribution to GuluWalk for education and rehabilitation programs for children in war-torn northern Uganda.

GuluWalk 2006 is a one-day worldwide event, held in 70 cities in 14 different countries, on Saturday, October 21. The objective is to have 10,000 people each raise $100, with the $1 million going to education, rehabilitation and youth support programs.

The walk was inspired by accounts that as many as 40,000 children walk every night from rural villages in northern Uganda into the town of Gulu and other urban centres, to sleep in relative safety and to avoid abduction by the resistance army.

“This is a Canadian-founded and led event that is truly what grassroots global citizenship is all about,” says CAW President Buzz Hargrove. “These children have been ignored for far too long.” For more information, visit www.guluwalk.com.
